As downtown Statesville is growing, The Mercantile On Broad is more than happy to be a part of this wonderful community. Surrounded by new and old businesses, Broad street is the perfect location for a boutique shop like this. They mostly specialize in merchandise made from local artists like candles, home décor, edible goods, and jewelry but also carry trending clothing, shoes, and other wearables.

I spoke with Tori, the owner, who just celebrated their one year anniversary, about what she loves about this business. She grew up surrounded by family that owned their own businesses. “I always heard of the struggles and successes that come with being an entrepreneur. I always dreamed of owning a business that supported the local community and over the past year I’ve been able to collaborate with other local small businesses to create The Mercantile On Broad as it is today!”.

When I asked Tori what drew her to this shop, her answer was simple, “there was SO much opportunity and potential working the store plus the downtown charm was a bonus!”.  Raising awareness to the importance of supporting local businesses is a core value of Mercantile and Tori.

One thing I love about this shop is how much they participate in Statesville’s activities. She says, “we love to have fun here” and that shows! Over the past year they have hosted pop up vendors, created a downtown Merchant Association in an effort to get downtown business owners to collaborate and even hosted ‘meet the makers’ so the community can get to know makers.

A great event they started for downtown Statesville is ‘2nd Saturday’s’ which is a monthly event that allows popup vendors to showcase and sell their goods at participating downtown businesses. They also invite local non-profit organizations like Foster Love Adopt Repeat to help them raise awareness on the importance of not just adopting, but fostering children in need.

Take a trip to downtown Statesville and show your love for this growing, close-knit community. You will see how much they appreciate your business!
