Episode 358
Heidi Karant
210 Collective
In this uplifting episode, Jeff sits down with Heidi Karant, founder of 210 Collective, a new Davidson-based nonprofit creating purposeful, paid work for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
After 27 years as a pediatric occupational therapist, Heidi saw a heartbreaking gap for young adults aging out of school programs – few local options for connection or employment. A chance visit to a Texas vocational community inspired her to bring the idea home to Lake Norman.
Launched in September 2025, 210 Collective runs a four-day-a-week program where “citizens” make and sell beautifully crafted products such as soaps, room sprays, and charcuterie boards – now featured at KF Studios in Davidson. Each participant earns a paycheck, learns new skills, and gains the dignity of purposeful work.
The Lake Norman community has rallied around the organization with volunteers, mentors, and local partners stepping up to help – from artists collaborating on future fundraisers to neighbors handling admin work.
Heidi shares heartwarming stories of friendships forming, first paychecks celebrated, and the joy that fills their workshop every day. She also gives a glimpse of what’s ahead: a grand opening this fall, the first annual banquet on February 10, 2026, and a long-term dream of opening a combined coffee, retail, and creative workspace in Davidson.
Listeners can support 210 Collective by donating, volunteering, or following their journey at 210collective.org and on Instagram @210collectiveLKN.
A powerful reminder that with the right environment, everyone has the potential to grow, create, and thrive.
