Pamela Quarles-Adams

After growing up in Louisiana and twenty years  in Colorado — including a stint breeding Clydesdales on the back side of Pikes Peak — artist Pamela Quarles Adams landed on Lake Norman five years ago and fell for downtown Davidson the very first time she saw it. What started as a studio above Good Drip Coffee became a full Main Street gallery representing eight other artists, an adult class waitlist over a thousand names deep, and, eventually, a decision she never expected to make: closing it all down to finally focus on her own work.

Pamela joins Jeff to talk about the wildlife series that started with the indigenous animals of Louisiana and has followed her to every place she’s lived, the Blue Ridge Mountain paintings she renders in flat blocks of color instead of realistic hues, and the single continuous contour line portraits that have to be finished in one sitting — including a Salvador Dalí piece a visitor is urging her to send to the Dalí Museum. She also shares the story behind her long-in-progress painting of Moose, the beloved Carolina red wolf, and her hope that his legacy can raise money for the sanctuary that cared for him.
