Hunter House is a unique fine dining destination in Huntersville, North Carolina. The home, built in 1913, was home to Helen Hunter Ranson and her family.
Today, Ellen Loncz owns Hunter House and has transformed the estate into one of the Lake Norman area’s premier fine dining destinations. One thing that distinguishes Hunter House from other local fine dining restaurants is their Prix Fixe menu, available on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
My wife and I experienced the Prix Fixe menu recently, and I thought I’d share some details about it with you.
Spoiler alert: it was excellent.
Prix Fixe at Hunter House
“Prix Fixe” is French for “fixed price.” The concept is one that offers diners a mid-week value at Hunter House that isn’t available on weekends.
First, a drink
In addition to an exquisite dining experience, Hunter House is well-known for their spectacular cocktail program.
The bourbon selection is vast, and their Old Fashioneds are outstanding.
Starter
I chose the House Salad, and it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. It consists of mixed greens, shaved red onion, tomatoes, cucumbers, and fresh lemon Dijon vinaigrette.
The other choice on the Prix Fixe menu that evening was Smoked Duck Breast: house marinated and smoked sliced duck breast over crispy grit cakes topped with a blueberry and black pepper reduction.
Main
For my main course, I opted for the Chicken and Succotash: Bell Evans free-range chicken, marinated in garlic rosemary over a farm-to-table seasonal succotash, topped with their house-made tomatilla salsa with gorgonzola cheese and a lemon Dijon vinaigrette.
Other choices:
Parmesan Encrusted Salmon – Parmesan encrusted salmon served over Charleston red rice with a fresh basil emulsion.
Andouille Sausage Meatloaf – Spice Andouille sausage served over creamy mashed potatoes, with a sage mushroom cream sauce.
Dessert
I highly recommend leaving room to indulge in the Southern Sweet Biscuit: house-made sweet biscuits served over orange custard with creamy whipped cream and strawberries.
The Prix Fixe Menu at Hunter House is an invitation to brighten up your mid-week routine. It’s the perfect Wednesday evening.
