2023 Cornelius Trail Passport Challenge

Did you know 2023 is the Year of the Trail in North Carolina? Led by the Great Trails State Coalition, the Year of the Trail celebrates the paths, trails, and greenways that provide well-being, recreation, beauty, and quality time with loved ones to people throughout the Tar Heel State.

Cornelius is celebrating all year, and you won’t want to miss their next event. Mark your calendars for March 13 when the Cornelius Trail Passport Challenge officially kicks off.

Residents throughout the Lake Norman area are invited…better yet, challenged to visit all nine greenways and trails associated with the passport between March 13 and September 30. Check-in using the QR code posted on green signs at each greenway or trail, and you could win a prize from a collection of donations from local businesses.

And if you have spent any time here at The Best of LKN, you know how many fantastic businesses we have in this area.

Here are some of the prizes you could win:

  • A pair of shoes from Fleet Feet of Huntersville
  • Electric bike rental from Pedego Electric Bikes Lake Norman
  • Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar gift card
  • Whit’s Frozen Custard gift card
  • RAY-Active pass from Mecklenburg Parks & Recreation
  • Hot chocolate from Kilwin’s

Even if you don’t win one of the featured prizes, you won’t walk (or run, or bike) away empty-handed. Everyone who checks in at all nine passport locations will get a Swag Bag from Cornelius Parks and Recreation including Year of the Trail merch, exclusive sticker or magnet, and more.

All you need to do in order to participate is scan the QR code at each of these passport locations:

  • Antiquity Greenway
  • Jetton Park Trail
  • Plum Creek Greenway
  • Bailey Road Park Nature Trail
  • McDowell Creek Greenway Phase I
  • McDowell Creek Greenway Phase II
  • Robbins Park Nature Trails
  • Caldwell Station Creek Greenway
  • South Prong Rocky River Greenway

What better way to kick off a gorgeous Carolina spring than getting outside and challenging ourselves to visit our local greenways and trails?

Details and greenway maps are available at Cornelius.org.
